Jealousy

interesting story about jealousy source
In light of recent events in my life I've been doing some thinking on the subject of jealousy. And I asked myself: What is it that makes people jealous?
Is it the fear of losing someone, or the feeling of simply not wanting to share a person that's special to you with someone else? Is it the fear of the other person getting more important and - consequently - you getting less important and less attention?
Personally, I belive that it depends on the situation and mostly is a mixture of all the reasons stated.

Also, how does it start? Does it always start with the same situation? For me, sometimes it's the mere thought of that other person that makes me go nervous and queasy from one second to the other. And sometimes it takes a little more, like an affectionate mentioning or anecdote that you get to hear.

I guess, everyone has at least one person they're occasionally jealous of. It might beyour boyfriend's ex-girlfriend or your grandma's favorite grandchild.

Do you ever have feelings like that? In which situations do you react too sensitive? And what do you do to snap back out of it?

Xoxo, have a great week!

Happy New Year

source
Happy New Year to all of you! I wish you that this year all of your resolutions and wishes will come true and that it'll be the happiest year of your life!

Remember the New Year resolution I made last year - finding my very own Mr. Big? At this very moment it seems this NY resolution has come true!

Last summer, when I finished my studies and started working, one of my new colleagues caught my eye and - because of my other colleagues selfishness (that, in this case was actually a blessing) he and I went for lunch together almost every day and the rest is history. We've been dating for almost three months now and it's still so amazing and so different to all the relationships I had before. It's not the I am so excited, butterflies in my belly-type of relationship, but one of those it feels so good being together and everything is absolutely relaxed and feels as this is the one-type of relationship.

I feel like I should have told you about the goings-on before, but I really didn't want to spoil anything by making prophecies to soon. However, as it is, I feel like (and truly wish) this will
be going on for a long time to come and I can't wait to savor every single minute of it.

I wish you all that you will be able to make a NY resolution that will come true just like mine did.

Xoxo, Happy New Year!

My only wish for Christmas

All I wish for Christmas this year is to have some more time.

Time to spend with my lovely boyfriend.
Time to spend with my family and friends.
Time to read wonderful books while sipping a hot chocolate.
Time to go outdoors and enjoy nature.
Time to go skiing.
Time to go to the cinema.
Time (and money) to go on a trip around the world.

I know it's (almost) impossible to be presented with a gift as valuable and hard to give as time, so I'll try to make most of the time I have.

What would you do with more time on your hands?
And what do you wish for this Christmas?

Xoxo, enjoy what little time you have and live every moment!

No men, no problems

source
It took me until today to realize that if there are no men in your life - in a romantic way, of course - you've got a lot less problems then when you are in a relationship. Of course there's the occasional misunderstanding with your co-workers or a little fight with one of your friends.

But there are no evenings spent on the sofa crying and watching Dirty Dancing. There are no long hours of waiting for his call or text. No days spent at home, because you feel too depressed, tired, ugly, ... (fill in your feeling here) to go out of the house. No worried phone calls from your mum saying she's going to send out a search party to rescue you from this world shattering mistake you're about to do or, alternatively asking when you'll finally get married.

Instead, you have a lot more time and muse to practice your hobbies, meet with your girlfriends, drink wine and eat chocolate while watching Sex and the City for the thousandth time or dancing along to this one embarrassing favorite CD. You don't have to shave all the time, no one minds if you've gained a few pounds and there's no reason why you shouldn't spend hours on some online shopping site spending your money on beautiful shoes and bags.

And the greatest benefit: Knowing yourself. You've got so much more time at your hands
to get to know you.

What do you think are the greatest benefits of being single?

Xoxo, that's a great life, don't you think!

Ode to the nice guys

source
The following is dedicated to all the nice guys out there, who are still single because they haven't found a girl yet, who appreciates their qualities.

I found this text by chance while spending some time on StumbleUpon and it made me realize, while I've always been dating the mysterious, interesting, bad guy, I'll only be happy for the rest of my life with a NICE GUY.

Ode to the Nice Guys
This rant was written for the Wharton Undergraduate Journal

This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. ... This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.

This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.

This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. ... This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you ... And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that.

The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. ... many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things ... Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. ... I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who ... realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.

So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming.

Isn't that just the most beautiful text to read? I was, maybe sometimes still am that girl, who isn't appreciating the nice, quiet guys, who do everything in their power to make you happy and know what to say at the exact right time, but I still have hope that one day I'll be able to actually change my ways and choose a NICE GUY.

Xoxo, I suggest we try to appreciate all the nice guys out there a bit more, girls!

Boyfriend turned romantic

My French Guy is finally back from his holidays and my patience has been paying off ever since. Things have been better than ever before and it seems like my being worried about missing him so much doesn't seem to have been wrong.

source
But what I really wanted to tell you about is yesterday. Yesterday, when he did the most romantic thing I could imagine right now: When we were just getting ready to going to bed, I said: You know what I've been thinking? A massage would be so nice right now.
Next thing I know is that he told me to take off my shirt and lie down. And then he gave me one of the most romantic massages I ever got. With lots of kisses and tender touching (only my back, of course)
When it was over and I was lying in his arms I promised him to give him a massage in return the next time he would be staying over. He just said hmm and told me that I would get another one then too and every other time I want one. And then he said the most romantic thing: You have a free pass for massages. I will give you as many massages as you want.

In my experience until now I always had to make an effort to get my boyfriend to give me a massage, that's why I was so touched by him saying that. Also, this gives me the feeling that he's got the intention of sticking around for some time. Don't ask me why, I just got the feeling that this is going to be a great love story. We even made it to falling asleep in each others arms - no need for My Side, Your Side anymore. If this isn't a sign, I don't know what is.

Xoxo, just be patient for some time and you will get even more than you ever dreamed of!

Missing you

source
It has been such beautiful weather the last days - beautiful couple weather as I call it. Unfortunately my sweet french guy is on a two-week vacation in the US. Not enough that he's gone for two weeks, a whole ocean separating us, it kills me that we can't enjoy the first real summer days of the year together. I wish we could go to the park, enjoy the sun and each other. I wish we could go for a stroll to the ice cream parlor round the corner, holding hands and taking in this feeling of joy one only has on the first few summer days. The same way all the other happy couples, that I come across all day, do.

Missing him so much makes me think. It makes me ask myself if it is ok to grow attached to someone so fast - after all, we've met a bit more than five weeks ago. Is it normal to miss him so much after this short span of time? I am aware - from my own experiences, that it isn't the best idea to get too attached to someone after such a short time, but I am just so happy that I finally found someone who I like and who likes me - considering it's been a while since someone had an honest interest in being with me.

Xoxo, let's hope my french sweetie proves himself worth missing!

My side, your side

Remember how I was going on about wanting to feel safe in someone's arms, having someone waiting for me at home and dreaming of falling asleep right next to Prince Charming?

source
So, I've met this cute french guy at a friend's party and we ended up kissing drunkenly. After that I didn't really expect him to call or anything - considering we where both wasted, but he actually called me the next day and asked me out on a date. We spent a really nice evening together and I enjoyed being with him very much, so we ended up going back to my place and him spending the night.
Problem is, he's a very "cuddly" guy. He would scoot over all the time, hold me in his arms and make a lot of body contact. Don't get me wrong, it was lovely, I really enjoyed it - after all, that is what I've been dreaming of since I have been single again. However, as I've been single for quite some time now, I am not used to having someone right next to me anymore. So I ended up turning and tossing all the time and waking him up every time I moved. Let me say, we didn't get too much sleep that night. And the second night. And not because we where having passionate sex all night.

I kept feeling really bad because all I wanted to do was to tell him to just get the hell over to "his" side of the bed and give me some space to sleep, but I really didn't want to hurt him. Last night I finally plucked up the courage to tell him, in a Dirty Dancing kind of way - like: This is my space, that is your space. I don't get into yours and you don't get into mine. With a few (or a lot) exceptions, of course. And voilà, it worked out well. We kept holding hands all night, but also got some rest.
And he didn't seem to be hurt at all - if he was, he concealed it well, but I already know that he needs at least as much sleep as I do, so it might not have been the worst decision to make. Although he kept teasing me whenever I tried to steal a kiss from him and had to cross the "border".

Xoxo, sometimes you just have to invent new rules - if only to break them later!
